Track Championships::At the World Track Championship this
year, held at the National Velodrome in Manchester, 53 High Wycombe

( Team GB) gained a bronze medal in the Individual pursuit. This week
Wycombe's own Martin and Karl Freeman will return to Manchester
for Track assessment tests for the GB Under 23's Squad. They will also
be racing round the very same track when they compete in the University
Students National Track Championships to be held in a months time, both
Karl and Martin are Students at Buckinghamshire University College.
- Bike

- Club
Room Talks:There will be a number of talks taking place on
club nights throughout the winter, following the circuit training.
There
are no firm dates as yet, these should appear in the last Sprocket
of the year. But just to whet your appetite, under consideration are:
· An irreverent look at hygiene and diet - Steve Pulley,
· Gordon doing his Michael Parkinson with Eddy Adkins.
If you were at this year's interview with Paul Lazenby this will be
a 'don't miss' event. · Malcolm Freeman on road racing,
the tactics, training. · Auriel Forester, anything by
Auriel is interesting, · And hopefully we can persuade Gordon
to give his postponed talk on using the HRM.
This
list may well lengthen as other subjects are taken up. If you would
like to hear a talk on a particular subject, let a committee member
know. Better still give one yourself; the members will be gentle (as
only cyclists can be with one another!) with you I am sure.

World
Track Championships:This coming Sunday High Wycombe Cycling
Club members will leave their bikes at home to travel by coach to
the National Cycling Velodrome in Manchester where they will be encouraging

- New
Club Promotional Leaflet: Have you seen it? If there is somewhere
you could post the leaflet where it may generate interest e.g. a health
club, swimming pool, school, etc, get in touch with John Day
- BCF
GB Squad 2001:Adam Henley was called to the British
Cycling Federation World Class Performance laboratory on Friday for

new Great Britain potential squad for next season. Adam successfully

for him

Championship TT:Gordon Wright returned from the World
Cycling Championships in Brittany France last week having been with
Stuart Dangerfield who is the current National 25 mile champion,
and National Circuit Time Trial champion . Coached by Wright, Stuart
was called to represent Great Britain in the Elite Time Trial at the
Championships only 6 days earlier when David Miller (who rides
for the French Professional team Cofidis) was withdrawn due to Illness.
Dangerfield stepped in along side Chris Boardman who finished
in a splendid 4th place. Dangerfield finished a disappointed 25th but
under the circumstances and with such a late call, and just one week
to prepare, Gordon Wright stated that he had done well. With more forward
preparation his result could have been much better.

- National
''25' ': HWCC Senior coach (President and acting Chairman)
Gordon Wright coached Stuart Dangerfield to his second
win in the National Championship race in Staffordshire on Saturday.
Stuart recorded 50:04 to take the Gold Medal from Michael Hutchinson
(Bio RT) by 16 seconds. Stuart is now on track for a place at the Sydney
Olympics later this year. But is this a good enough excuse for Gordon
not finding time to get his home e-mail system working? I think not.
(What happened last year?)

Ian Davis fell off his mountain bike
on Saturday 4th March and has broken his right thumb as well as cutting
and bruising himself. He'll be off the bike for at least 6 weeks as
his arm is in a full cast. He hit a speed bump in Slough Lane, West
Wycombe. Apart from that he's fine - but a spy in the camp reports that
he is milking the attention and claiming he can't really do anything
for himself. As she reports, "At least Ishould be fit by the end
of it all!!!!! "

- Bournemouth
weekend was excellent as usual. Blue skies and sunshine. Still waiting
for the Roadies report but here's what the Off-Roadies got up to. A
grand total of 6 offroaders - Dave Buffham, Ian Cole,
Keith Boak, Gary Cross(with borrowed bike courtesy of CycleCare),
Ian Davis and Andy Hawes. Saturday morning and along the
front dodging the army of officials looking for cyclists and smokers
(Gordon Wright got caught - should be free this time next year
with good behaviour), over the ferry and right into the woods. Stiff
climb onto the ridge just before Corfe Castle then an exhilarating decent
into Corfe. To the cafe just to peer through the window at the roadies
- stuffing their faces again just 90mins after a big breakfast. Coffee
stops are for wimps. Straight on and up onto the next ridge - rocky,
rutted climb. Splendid views of Corfe one side and Kimmeridge Bay and
Lulworth Cove the other. Rode along the ridge a bit and dropped down
into Kimmeridge for lunch. Andy's second fall on the way down. Not much
blood despite puncture. Light lunch then slog back up onto the ridge
and back along to Corfe. Went right to the very end - very steep drop
off - too severe for some of us - but a splendid plan view down on top
of the castle. Down then up again and the long, long uphill slog along
Nine Barrow Down - Ian D and Andy keep edging away, and annoyingly,
opening all the gates so the rest of us didn't get the chance of a breather.
Around Swanage had to drop off and climb back up again - climb was so
steep we could hardly walk it. Finally got to the end around 4ish and
peered at Old Harry. Good plumber, Harry. Decided to try our luck along
the beach back to the ferry. It was very tiring but memorable. Hard
wet sand - bracing stiff breeze in your face - and about 3 miles of
constant pressure along the water's edge on the hard sand. Fortunately
just missed the ferry giving us time for a decent rest. Over the ferry,
then coffee and carrot cake in the surfer's shack before riding in convoy
back along the front to Boscombe, sun setting in a red sky behind us.
All too knackered to do much on the evening although Dave, Garry and
John Day did have an experience involving two nymphets writhing on the
floor of a chip shop licking tomato sauce and mayonnaise off each other.
But that's another story....
